In many ways this island provides the best combination. Mindelo, its capital, is home of the world famous Cape Verdean music and is the cultural centre of the Islands.

Here, you’ll find Cape Verde’s second largest town, Mindelo. With its colonial architecture, colourful buildings and leafy squares, it’s the cultural heart of the islands ... And if you hit the beach here in Sao Pedro, you might be lucky enough to spot some sea turtles.

São Vicente, the driest island, is considered to be the cultural centre of the islands and home to many Cape Verdean musicians. Its capital Mindelo is known for its pulsating nightlife, live music and architectural beauty. Windsurfing and body boarding are popular here as some of the best surf on the archipelago is found here.

Sao Vicente has a vibrant nightlife and has the second largest population in Cape Verde, with most of the inhabitants living in Mindelo. The port of Mindelo is being redeveloped into a superb marina and promenade area, and the British and colonial influences on the islands include a very basic golf course, which has plans to be redeveloped, and a lovely town square, where locals promenade around the trees and cafes.

Mindelo thrives on its music and the carnivals are its most important cultural event. There is also a large music festival on the beach at Baia das Gatas, a beach area not far from Mindelo.

San Pedro has great beaches and is one of the best places in the world for wind surfing. Salamansa, Baia das Gatas and Calhau are also good beach areas. Body boarding, cycling and horseback riding along the beach are growing in popularity as more tourism increases. There are mountainous areas overlooking the beautiful bay in Mindelo and the stunning scenery of Santo Antao is just a 1 hour ferry away.
